Bloggy Giveaway Day 4- Enviro Friendly Laundry Soap

Thursday, October 30, 2008

**COMMENTS NOW CLOSED**

Going green and changing the impact my family has on the environment can often seem daunting. Sometimes it's hard for me to know where to start, what changes to make, what we can afford to do and what changes will have the most impact.

I believe we all need to be more conscious of what is happening to our planet, but I also believe in doing what is practical for you and your family. I'd love to stop using paper towels, but know I'd never be able to keep up with the laundry so I try to buy recycled ones and I use cloth towels for dusting and light cleaning.

One change I have been able to stick with is using environmentally friendly laundry soap. When I saw an ad for today's sponsor, I emailed and they responded right away with a really great offer for THREE winners!

Dropps are concentrated liquid gel pods just like ones for the dishwasher. They dissolve immediately, are biodegradable and are phosphate, chlorine and NPE free (I had to look up the last one, it's nonylphenol ethoxylate). Dropps are sold online through their site, Amazon and Drugstore; and in Target, Wal Mart and Whole Foods.

They come in three sizes: 2,20 and 26 load pouches. I asked if a larger size is available through Costco or Sam's. A 42 load size will be available in December but only at the current locations. They come in a Fresh scent or dye-free non-scented which would be good for hubby's eczema.

One winner will receive a three-month supply of Dropps! That's 60 washloads (three 20 load pouches)! And two runners up will receive sample packages.

**Update: The literal second I hit publish, the doorbell rang with my samples! I'm not being dramatic either. I swear! Funny how things like that happen. Like when you think of a song and it comes on the radio. Anyway, I gathered up some of the mountains of my laundry and used one of the 2-load packs for a large load. The packs float and look like dying jellyfish while they're dissolving.

To enter:

1. Go to the Dropps site to read more about their environmental benefits.

2. Come back here and leave a comment on this post and tell me your impressions or what you're doing to be more green - required.
3. I MUST have a way to get in touch with you! NoReply@Blogger will not send you a response. I will have to delete comments with no contact info.
4. Comments will close on Friday, October 31st at 11:59pm CA time.

5. I will use random.org to draw the winners and post the results/notify winner via email and in a "Winners" post on Saturday 11/1. The lowest number will be grand prize winner.

6. You don't need a blog to win, but I MUST have a way to contact you. US residents only (sorry!)

  1. I am trying to be more green by recycling and cutting back on disposable paper products like paper towels, we also try to use homemade cleaners like vinegar.

Thanks for the chance to win, please throw my name into the hat!

  3. Whoa, these look so cool! I'd never heard of them before. Definitely very modern and of course eco-friendly! I use GreenWorks cleaning products or homemade cleaning products around the house, I also don't buy products in such as styrofoam or plastic cups. I try to cut back on plastics and use glass items instead.

    Thanks Mel!

  4. Thanks for a great giveaway! I like that these are using less plastic than a jug of laundry liquid. It would be nice if the outer packaging was recyclable as well, but I wonder if they are limited in the materials they can use to keep them free of moisture. Two of the ways I conserve are by using a front loader machine and hanging most of my laundry to dry when possible.

  5. I use Greenworks and 7th generation cleaning products around my home. I have to admit that I still use conventional detergent for my laundry. I would love the opportunity to try out Green detergent. I really hope I win. But I have said that about all of your giveaways.

  6. I've seen ads for these and would love to get to try them! _SO_ much easier than carting the laundry soap up to the communal facilities!

We try to recycle as much as possible, and I avoid disposable stuff when I can. It's amazing the difference it makes in how much trash we create vs. how much my parents create!

  7. I really like the idea of this detergent. It sounds very clean and environmentally friendly.
Some of the things we do to go green are buying fresh vegetables instead of canned (less packaginging waste), using a front load clothes washer (less water usage), and buying natural fiber clothing.

  10. These look great! Would be so much nicer than those big jugs of liquid detergent I use now. I like that these will also work in cold water washing which helps save energy!

Would love to see the "jellyfish" look of them also LOL

    Thanks!

  11. Those are interesting. I was just talking to my husband last night about making our own soap. This would be fun to try. We have been recyclying for years, and I also repurpose alot of things! I love doing that! thanks for the chance to win!

  12. I have to say I am actually fairly impressed with what I saw of this company and the product. I usually tend to be pessimistic about how "green" something really is. I think these are definately worth a try. Did your laundry get good and clean when you tried them? Thanks for the chance to win!

  13. we have been going more green...one of the ways is I stopped using laundry detergent...we have been using vingar on the spelly ones....I am very interested in detergent as long as it is cost effective and good for the environment

  14. I like that it is 6x concentrated, equaling a smaller eco footprint. We are very into going green, one thing we do is make all homemade cleaners, such as vinegar and baking soda, with added essential oils.

  15. I used to not get into the hype about "green" products. I personally thought it was a money gimmick, but I was so wrong! I'm more fond of green cleaners and laundry products than the traditional products that are out that. So please sign me up! :)

  17. Sign me up, please! I'd love to try something like this, especially since it works for loads and loads--less packaging and less worry about running out of soap! The site seems to work in Firfox now, BTW.

One thing we're focusing on is cutting out disposable paper products, like napkins and paper towels. Cloth works just as well (better, really) and all it adds is an extra load of laundry every couple of weeks. Good trade off!

  18. What a great product. I love it and I love that it can be used in front loaders.

My family has made it a goal to be more green. We have made a point to use reusable bags for groceries, reduce our electirc bill/use, and put as much of our waste into recycling as possible. We are also working on creating a compost pile and using our wood stove more for heat, using less oil.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm really impressed by its smaller footprint. It's hard to believe that one jug equals 292 empty pouches.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Great produc! I like that it uses less plastic than a regular laundry container.

  21. I'm tryin to "go green" by recycling more...using GreenWorks, unplugging things we dont need, and using less heat and more blankets! :)

    Thanks for (another) great giveaway!

What we are doing to go green is recycling everything that can possibly be recycled.

    ReplyDelete

At the moment I'm preparing for a serious move to 'greenness' in our food. I had zero gardening skills until this year, and my goal is to get to the point where I grow all our produce within 5 years. You better believe I'm utilizing the library books on organic gardening. :)

  58. Would love to try these out. I presently use Eco Products Boulder Laundry detergent which is non-toxic and I like alot but it comes in a big jug. These seem so easy.

I have a blog about living green, sustainable and in harmony with the planet and live as sustainably as I can - even changed my diet to a mostly raw vegan diet at the beginning of the year and you'd be amazed at how little garbage that makes - you compost everything! We also grow a large garden, preserve food in different ways for the winter, etc.

  59. These are awesome and I would love to try them. Maybe I'm lazy but this seems so much easier then having to poor liquid into a cup to measure it - and it's "green" so that's great too.

  61. We're being more green by replacing all of our paper towels and napkins with cloth versions. It's actually been a lot easier than I thought it would be :-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. We're trying to be more green by making reusable produce bags (we get most of our produce from a co-op), and by nearly eliminating paper towel. I would love to try the scent/dye free version of these.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I appreciate that the laundry soap is pre-measured. You hear so much about folks using too much soap and gunking things up in the laundry. I think I do that!

Being a little more environmental? Sure! I hang dry all but one load each week. (Those would be towels that get a might stiff if I hang them.) We've switched to CFL's. I use reusable grocery sakes. I also shop once every two weeks for groceries. More economical, but more environmental since I'm throwing less away!

    Thank you!

  109. We totally recycle. If I could I would also stop the newspaper ads that come EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. and the door to door paper ads they stick in my door and fall out to the floor when I open the door. ANNOYING!

Was I supposed to rant about annoying things or post how I am green?

  110. I use cloth diapers in 1988 and everyone thought I was crazy. I used the same ones pretty much for all four kids.

  111. I have never heard of these. I'll definitely look for them the next time I'm shopping. In our house we've been diligently finding more ways we can recycle. It all started with the Sunday newspapers and now we do our best to recycle just about everything.

  112. I am and I do turn lights off more now than ever before. I also use reusable shopping bags each week for grocery shopping. And, I have started turning the heat lower. Thanks!
